Washing your synthetic wig couldn’t be easier. Synthetic wigs are made with fibers that are permanently shaped into the style that was created. When you wash them the style automatically returns to the way it was….easy-peasy!
There are a few steps and tips to keep your wig looking good and last longer. Synthetic fibers really need the correct products to keep them from getting dry and brittle. Remember it’s not human…its basically plastic.
You’re also going to need a wire or plastic wig stand to dry it on.
First, gently comb your wig and smooth any tangles – especially important for longer hair.
Fill a small sink or a bowl with cool water. Add some shampoo for synthetic hair and suds up the water.
Holding your wig from the front (try to avoid holding the lace front, if you have one) and lay it in the water. Always keep the hair flowing down.
Now let it sit in the soapy water for a few minutes.
Lift it out and fill your basin with cool water. Place your wig in the water (hold from the front, hair flowing down) and submerge it. Lift it out and repeat.
Now it should be ready to put in the towel. Place a towel on the counter and lay the wig on it. Fold the towel over and press to absorb the water.
After most of the water has been absorbed pick it up from the front and give it a good shake ( careful, the water is going to get you in the face!). Spray a few pumps of the synthetic conditioning spray on your wig and gently comb it through, don’t forget the under side where it rests on your neck. Give it another shake.
Now you can place it on your wire or plastic rack and let it dry. Tip: be sure the back is not tucked up underneath.
Let it dry overnight and your good to go in the morning!
